(CBS Radio) — Everyone wants a whiter smile, but there are many things that we eat and/or drink on any given day that contribute to our teeth becoming stained and discolored.
Your dentist can whiten your teeth, but did you know that you can also whiten your teeth at home with an orange peel? Yes, an orange peel.
Unlike having your teeth whitened at the dentist, at home teeth whitening remedies will not put a dent in your bank account.
Before you start whiting your teeth with an orange peel, here are a few oral health tips:
- Maintain proper oral hygiene by brushing your teeth at least two times per day
- Floss daily
- Rinse your mouth after meals and drink plenty of water, as water reduces the amount of food residue in your mouth
Choosing The “Right” Orange
While any orange peel will do, it’s wise to buy organic oranges due to the pesticides typically found in commercially grown oranges. To whiten your teeth with an orange peel:
- Wash the orange
- Peel
- Rub the inside of the orange peel over your teeth
- Rinse your mouth
- Brush your teeth
For best results, repeat weekly.
