(CBS Radio) — Elite athletes have been listening to music while working out for years.  While the majority of us are not elite athletes, is there a benefit to adding music to your exercise routine?

Listening to upbeat music while working out is generally thought to improve a person’s workout. In fact, adding tunes to your workout also improves your mood, in addition to changing your focus.

When a person uses music to aid their workout, they tend to focus on the music instead of the duration of their workout, or how sore they are.

Therefore, not only does music improve physical endurance, it also contributes to faster results.

For the best workout possible, choose songs that are between 120 and 140 beats per minute. Happy workout!
