With his O.N.I.F.C. album dropping today (December 4), Wiz Khalifa cleared the smoke-filled air about “Rise Above,” the Pharrell-produced song from his new set.
Last week, Khalifa gave fans a taste of “Rise Above,” a mellow track with understated bongos, soothing layered vocals and the unmistakable groovy Wiz vibe. It included a rapping Pharrell, a verse from Taylor Gang affiliate Tuki Carter and a few words from his Amber Rose.
On Sunday (December 2), Khalifa explained how he influenced Pharrell’s production style for the track.
“We were just so high in the studio,” he revealed in a video posted to WizKhalifa.com. “He doesn’t smoke, but he got really stoned off contact. He just jumped in the booth and did his verse. He just did it naturally, we were on teh same level.”
The album O.N.I.F.C, which stands for Only N**** In First Class, also includes notable features from Cam’Ron (“The Bluff”), Juicy J (“The Plan”) and 2 Chainz (“It’s Nothin’”).
