Before the Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnastics Champions show tonight, Olympic medalist Nastia Liukin dropped by to chat with Drex & Cassiday about the amazing show tonight plus we find out what’s bumping on her iPod and some of the things she loves to do in her free time.
While Drex immediately started with “which girls don’t you like,” Nastia laughed and immediately declared her love for all the girls on the road with her. When she first made Olympic news, she was 18 and one of the younger girls. Now, she gets to watch the other young gymnasts enjoying life on the road. ”It’s been kind of fun to hang out with them and feel like I’m 16 again.” It’s a great life for any teenager, walking around the Olympic village, enjoying the opening ceremony plus meeting other huge Olympic stars.
“All I remember is training and competing, I didn’t see much of Beijing,” she admits of the 2008 Olympics before opening up that her daily routine consisted of carbing up on only 2200 calories to get ready.
Besides training, what does Nastia love to do for fun? ”We all sleep,” she laughs. ”It’s been a long few months but… I like to shop, just normal stuff.” While a huge star in the athletic world, Nastia stays grounded when talking about what’s playing on her iPod. ”The new Taylor Swift CD,” she says before telling a story of meeting Taylor Swift backstage at a show, when one of the singer’s handlers came out and told her Taylor was dying to meet her.
Okay, so maybe she’s a little more exciting than normal.
Watch the whole interview below and catch Nastia and other gymnastic Olympic stars tonight at the Time Warner Cable Arena.
In an effort to help prevent bullying, Nastia even took some time to ask Carolina kids to Stand Up & Speak Out against bullying. The school with the most pledges will win an awesome concert pep rally!
